Surrounded by Forests
This tour takes you through two national parks: Hoge Veluwe and Veluwezeoom. You'll ride through stunning forests filled with fragrant pines as well as birches, beeches and other deciduous trees. In addition, you'll pass through some of the biggest sand drifts in Europe and some stunning heaths that glow in purplish hues during the month of August. During this tour you may see a wide variety of animals, including sheep, deer, wild boars, badgers, foxes and others. The historical towns of Arnhem, Zutphen and Apeldoor all lie along this route, and there are numerous attractions along the way as well. Keep in mind that this tour is filled with moderate to relatively steep terrain. As with all of our cycle tours, you'll find your luggage waiting for you when you arrive at your destination.

Day Two: Ede to Beekbergen (53 km)
The first stop on your tour is Otterlo, the location of the Nederlands Tegelmuseum (Dutch Tile Museum) and the gateway to the Hoge Veluwe National Park. Just inside the park you'll find the Kroller-Muller Museum of Art, which houses a stunning sculpture garden and works by famous artists like Van Gogh. St Hubertus Hunting Lodge is also well worth your time. Then you'll come to Het Kootwijkerzand, a sand drift that's shaped by the wind. The landscape in this region is always changing. Cyclists who enjoy architecture in the art deco style should stop in at Radio Kootwijk, which was designed by Julius Luthmann, the well-known architect. Although the official route doesn't pass by Het Loo Palace, it's easy to drift away from the marked path temporarily to visit this important point of interest, which is filled with incredible gardens. At the culmination of this part of your journey, you'll be at Beekbergen.

Arrive at Ellecom, and stay there overnight.

Other points of interest include the Dutch Open Air Museum, which shows the evolution of the Dutch lifestyle over the centuries, or the intriguing Airborne Museum, which tells the tale of the 1944 Arnhem Battle. Finally you'll take up the path of the Rhine River, following it all the way to Wageningsche Berg. Then you'll turn north and ride back to Ede.
