Towns and Dikes
This bicycle tour is the quintessential Dutch experience. Frisian cows lie across lush meadowlands, which are edged by willow trees. You'll get a panoramic view of sparkling lakes that are home to various kinds of water birds. Kinderdijk's well-known windmills operate smoothly, scooping extra water from the polder into the nearby river. A string of historic towns are just waiting to be explored. The route offers easy riding the entire way. Just like on all of our bike tours, upon your return you'll enjoy top notch accommodation, and find your luggage waiting for you.

On your way to Gouda, commonly known as "cheese town", you'll catch a glimpse of castles and ride through parks and forests. Day Three: Gouda to Dordrecht (52 km)
On the third day of your journey, you'll reach Kinderdijk, the home of 19 windmills that have been there from 1740. The purpose of the windmills is to move extra water from the polder to the Lek River. The public is only allowed to walk through one of Kinderdijk's mills. After finishing up with the scenery there, you'll move on to Dordrecht, which is one of Netherland's oldest towns. Dordrecht sits amidst a group of rivers, so you'll cross a stately bridge to step into the town's center. Spend some time exploring the harbor area, which is home to many monuments.
Sample hotel: Postillion Hotel Dordrecht
Day Four: Dordrecht to Gorinchem (57 km)
Today you'll ride through Biesbosch National Park, which is one of Europe's last freshwater tidal regions. This part of your ride will take you past marshy forests, meadows, and landscapes filled with reeds. Water birds are a common sight in this area because they spend a lot of time breeding, foraging for food, and resting here. If you're especially fond of wildlife, stop in at Biesbosch Center Dordrecht to learn more about the inhabitants of this area.

Day Five: Gorinchem to Bunnik (54 km)
The town of Gorinchem (pronounced gorcum) has a rich but troubled history and a town center that's filled with more than 200 monuments to mark these turbulent memories. The town was once a thriving trade center and fishing village, but floods often plagued it and armies frequently attacked it because it was Holland's entrance point.
After your exploration of Gorinchem is complete, you'll ride north to Utrecht. The old inner city contains the Oude Gracht, or Old Canal. A string of caf?s lies along the Old Canal, which has quaysides that unlike those in other cities. Don't forget to visit the city's stunning Museum Quarter. Also Utrecht is a great place for shopping.
Day Six: Return Home (non-cycling day)
After a healthy breakfast, you'll head home.
